Abstract
Adult patients who have malocclusion are reluctant to have the esthetic problems caused by the attachment. Among this materials, orthodontic brackets and wires are major causation to the problem and currently efforts in producing natural tooth color materials and methods related in producing natural shade is constantly made. In this research, we used stainless-steel(SUS 304) as the basic material of the orthodontic brackets and wire, coating it with ceramic sol, Tetraethoxysilane(TEOS) as the starting material. By using different number of times of coating and temperature for heat-treatment the adhesion state of the coating layer, color and thickness of the coating layer and surface roughness were compared and the following conclusions were established. 1. The manufactured sol with silica sol and TiO©üpowder were able to adhere to the stainless-steel with moderate thickness of the coat and it made peak temperature at 631¡É by DTA. 2. By coating more than 3 times, the coat was able to mask the metallic appearance of the substrate. 3. Surface roughness at different number of times of coating was the least at 3 times for both sandblasted samples and non-sandblasted samples. 4. Film thickness according to different temperature of heat-treatment didn't change in the case of non-sandblasted samples, but for the sandblasted samples it was minimal at 350¡É. 5. Surface roughness of films according to different temperature of heat-treatment was the least at 250¡É for non-sandblasted samples and 400¡É for sandblasted samples.
